Richard E. Brown
Minister of Environment, Energy and Forestry
As Minister of Environment, Energy and Forestry, I lead a department charged with protecting the environment and the natural capital of Prince Edward Island and with safeguarding these resources for future Islanders.
In carrying out that work, departmental staff work to develop energy resources and maximize energy efficiency, to protect forests, water and wildlife habitat, to regulate waste handling and to control the use of pesticides and nitrates in our environment.
Our vision is of an enhanced connection between Islanders and their environment. Individuals, communities, businesses and governments value our natural capital. They understand the relationship among our environment, health and economy, and this relationship is a key consideration in all decision-making. Prince Edward Island is identified as Canada's "green" province - a model of sustainability.
Our mission is to work in close cooperation with Islanders to realize our vision.
It is my responsibility and my privilege to work with this department to protect and improve the province's environment, its energy resources and its forests and wild areas.
