Working Toward a Prosperous Economy

The Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning is overseeing the implementation of the province's five-year innovation and economic strategy, The Island Prosperity Strategy, A Focus for Change. This strategy sets a direction for building a more prosperous economy for Prince Edward Islanders, recognizing innovation as the source of competitiveness in the world economy.

Government is investing in people, innovation and strategic infrastructure to create new economic opportunities for Islanders all across the province.

Our objective is to support and strengthen innovation, productivity, competitiveness and commercialization opportunities in our Island economy. We are positioning Prince Edward Island to compete successfully in the global marketplace.

Our economic strategy requires a well-trained, educated workforce. A skilled workforce is vital to our economic success. Skills development is at the core of our economic strategy. In a constantly changing world, Islanders must be able to adapt to a shifting marketplace. Education is key to competing in a global, knowledge-based economy.

It is Government's role to ensure that Islanders have the skills they need to participate in today's economy, locally and globally. We are committed to improving and increasing post-secondary opportunities to build a strong workforce and create a better future for all Islanders.
